AIDPH, OPEN, Community Catalyst, and Families USA developed an advocacy and education Equality Act toolkit for the oral health community. The Equality Act is a piece of legislation that would provide consistent and explicit protection for LGBTQIA+ people to access education, public spaces, services, housing, credit, and federally-funded programming- with implications for healthcare.
LGBTQIA+ people still face a disproportionate burdern of disease and disability because of discrimination. Passing The Equality Act will improve health outcomes, including oral health, for this community.
Currently, The Equality Act has passed in the House and will be called soon for a vote in the Senate. Advocacy for this legislation should focus on your senator to amplify visibility of oral health equity and keep pressure on leadership to pass inclusive policies.
This toolkit provides resources for oral health advocates to connect with their Senators and greater community for supporting inclusive legislation. This kit includes:
- Resources and suggestions for getting involved
- An email template for emails to senators
- Tips for advocacy
- Social media messages for advocacy
