There is growing interest in the use of telehealth technologies, driven by increased recognition of its potential to improve access to health care and improve health outcomes.1,2,3 Advances in technology and information systems have paralleled increased awareness of the need to change the way health care is delivered to improve health care outcomes, while reducing health care system costs. In 2019, over 50 states reimburse for some form of live video in Medicaid fee-for-service.2 Eleven state Medicaid programs reimbursed for store-and-forward and five others have laws in this area but no mechanism yet.1,2 Teledentistry is part of a broader digital health transformation that is leading to better outcomes, at a lower cost and with greater patient and provider satisfaction, increasing the ability to reach the quadruple aim.4 In 2019, eight states have policies specific to teledentistry.2 However, very few states have a policy environment that fully supports the range of possibilities to improve health and care using teledentistry
