AIDPH has exciting learning opportunities available for dental public health practitioners and residents. If you are interested in developing skills as an academic leader, AIDPH has the Academic Leadership for Residents (ALR) Program. ALR is a collaboration with the AAL Group, a well-respected academic leadership training organization in health professions education. The program is a year-long experience with two four-day intensive educational experiences in person. Phase I will be held from September 14-17, 2019 in Atlanta, GA at the AAL offices. Phase II will convene in Las Vegas, NV from February 8-11, 2020. Between the two phases, the cohort and faculty meet remotely to discuss topics pertinent to the academic experience. While geared toward residents, we welcome other primary care dental and dental hygiene practitioners who are interested in an academic career.
For those public health practitioners and residents interested in a career in federal service, AIDPH offers the Federal Service Internship (FSI). Over a four day period in the fall of 2019, you visit Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA),National Institutes of Health/ National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIH/NIDCR), National Library of Medicine (NLM), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the Rockville, MD area. New this year, you will also meet legislators on Capitol Hill for a Q&A session on health policy. This experience increases knowledge about the role of federal agencies in promoting and securing the oral health of the nation.
I hope that you can join us! Contact me or our AIDPH Program Director, Annaliese Cothron (cothron@aidph.org), to learn more about this experience.
