Improving Knowledge, Comfort, and Attitudes for LGBTQIA+ Clinical Care and Dental Education

Following a survey of oral health students and professionals, AIDPH’s 2023 research brief revealed significant gaps in knowledge, experience, attitudes, and comfort levels among oral health practitioners regarding LGBTQIA+ oral health issues.  Notably, 77.2% of respondents felt their institution did not consider LGBTQIA+ issues a core aspect of clinical training. The findings highlight the need for improved education and training to ensure respectful, knowledgeable, and inclusive care. CareQuest Institute for Oral Health is a nonprofit championing a more equitable future where every person can reach their full potential through excellent health. Our health care system is not built to work for everyone — people of color, those living in rural communities, people with disabilities, older adults, and other historically marginalized groups have been left behind. To achieve better health for all, we need to work together to create a system that is accessible, equitable, and integrated.
