AAL Training Facility, Atlanta GA

The AAL Dental Residents’ Academic Leadership Program is a structured academic curriculum delivered by experts in the area of academic leadership. This program consists of two-phase (3 days each) residency supplemented by online (web-based) activities. Participants who attend both residencies, complete all activities, projects, and assignments will be awarded Internship Completion Recognition. The program equips participants with a unique set of new skills, tools, awareness, experiences, and contextual knowledge about academic leadership. Graduates will be able to take on demanding academic leadership roles and drive complex, multistakeholder initiatives, within academic institutions. Providing participants with training of exceptional quality and access to networking, participants experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to challenge their assumptions and expand their horizons. The primary focus of the program is to: 1) promote the development and training of participants whose goal is to become an academic leader in the future, 2) enhance participants’ capacity to teach with a strong emphasis on “What” and “How” public health concepts and skills should be taught and best learned by students, and 3) educate oral public health care professionals in primary care and prevention to address the pressing oral health needs of the public. During this program, participants will explore public health and prevention teaching principles and techniques augmented by pre-, between, and post-phase online projects and other at-home assignments.
