Academic Leadership for Residents (ALR)
The Academic Leadership for Residents Program is a partnership with the American Institute of Dental Public Health (AIDPH), the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry, and the Academy for Academic Leadership (AAL). Advanced dental education students and residents can participate in an experiential internship that will develop academic leaders and empower them to pursue educational excellence, the application of knowledge, and the discovery of ideas that lead to lifelong learning. The program will be tailored for the dental resident, leader, and scholar. The program consists of two phases supplemented with online activities. Advanced education students and residents from different programs are eligible to participate in this experience.

South Texas Environmental Education and Research (STEER)
The South Texas Environmental Education and Research (STEER) Program will be available to advanced dental education students and residents who are interested in a public health service-learning experience. Participants will examine life and health on both sides of the Texas-Mexico border in an interprofessional educational environment with students from medicine, dentistry, public health, and other health professions. For ten days, residents participate in a socio-cultural orientation to border issues, learning from health practitioners in clinics and hospitals, researchers, promotoras (community health workers), and public health workers on both sides of the border. Participants will explore environmental challenges faced by those living along the border, including air and water quality issues, food sanitation, toxicological issues, and wildlife concerns (i.e. rabies, dengue fever).

Federal Service Internship (FSI)
The Federal Service Internship (FSI), is a one week service-learning experience that will provide advanced dental education students and residents with the opportunity to visit federal agencies in the Washington DC area. Participants will engage with leaders to learn the roles and operations of each federal agency. Site visits include the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), National Institutes of Health/National Institutes of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIH/NIDCR), Indian Health Service (IHS), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This internship offers information about dental research and data analysis, policy development, and how federal policies impact access to dental services.
